Every weekday morning, my husband makes the two of us a green smoothie. A truly green smoothie, with kale, spinach, ginger chunks, turmeric and some frozen fruit- sometimes even fresh garlic when he thinks he is coming down with a cold. He’ll probably never hear the end of the day he forgot to warn me that my smoothie had raw garlic in it and I still had the taste in my mouth at dinnertime… Not that I don’t love garlic, but there is a time and a place! These are the puke green coloured smoothies that actually taste really good, but are a hard sell in a house of teens.
I have to be a little more subtle if I am going to sneak some goodness into my kids’ smoothie bowls! After a good workout and on weekends I love to make an extra large smoothie bowl to share with anyone who’s hungry. They vary every time, but here is one recipe that can be used as a base and modified from there. As long as your kids don’t watch you make it, I promise they will never guess what’s in it. 😉
I just watched a documentary the other day that stated that wild blueberries are one of the best foods for our brains. Especially for people who have suffered from concussions and brain injuries. Bring it on.
Maybe those little antioxidant filled balls of goodness will help my 40-something brain too!
